Mark's Story
Criminal Prosecutor
As a criminal prosecutor, Mark has spent his entire legal career working in courtrooms all across Los Angeles County, including the San Gabriel Valley, San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and Antelope Valley. He has worked in the adult and juvenile justice systems. He has tried over 40 cases to jury verdict, including sexual assault, domestic violence, narcotic sales and other violent crimes. As a criminal prosecutor, Mark has always been compassionate and considerate of the needs of victims, witnesses, and law enforcement officers.
Child Support Attorney
Prior to being hired by the criminal division, Mark worked as a Deputy District Attorney obtaining civil support orders for children. Over the course of three years, he obtained orders totaling in the tens of thousands of dollars for the children of Los Angeles County. As a Deputy District Attorney, he handled thousands of law and motion hearings and other civil law processes relating to support orders.
University Professor
In addition to being a criminal prosecutor, Mark is on faculty at the University of Phoenix and Chapman University as an adjunct professor. As a seasoned criminal prosecutor, he shares his legal knowledge and courtroom experiences with college students in the Criminal Justice Administration programs. Some of the courses that Mark teaches include: Criminal Procedure, Criminal Law, Criminal Court System, Constitutional Law, and White Collar Crime.
Community Support and Education
Prior to becoming an attorney, Mark worked for the United Way of Greater Los Angeles as a manager and campaigner. As a manager, he supervised the annual giving campaign for all federal government agencies within Los Angeles County. As a campaigner, he managed fundraising campaigns for major donors to the United Way, including donors such as Bank or America, Union Bank of California, and Wells Fargo Bank. The funds raised by Mark went to support essential community based organizations, such as Children’s Hospital, the Boys and Girls Clubs, and the American Red Cross.
Mark began his life of community service after graduating from college. His first job was with the American Cancer Society, Nevada Division. As a Field Representative of the American Cancer Society, he worked with community leaders to provide educational programs to the general public and healthcare professionals. On a daily basis, he visited schools, hospitals, and worksites in order to educate the community on prevention and early detection of cancer. In addition to implementing educational programs, Mark assisted cancer patients with resource services and referrals to treatment facilities.
Youth Leader
As a father of three young children and daily witness to the countless lives wasted behind bars, Mark truly believes that, “our children are our future.” As a “daddy helper” in his children’s elementary school and Sunday school teacher, he nurtures young children to develop strong self-esteem, self-confidence, and moral values.
Educational Background
Mark received his law degree from Rutgers School of Law in New Jersey. While at Rutgers, Mark received academic honors on the Dean’s List, and volunteered his time as a teaching assistant and in the pro bono bankruptcy project. Mark received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was active in numerous clubs and other organizations.
